LYNDON CENTER–The North Country girls had themselves a game on Tuesday when they traveled down south to take on the Lyndon Institute Vikings.

The Falcons would score three times in the first, add four in the second, and come away with a one-sided victory.

Falcons coach Pete Kellaway described how the game went.

“On a beauty of a day for soccer, the North Country Union High School varsity girls traveled to Forrest Field in Lyndonville for a Capital League match up. With the Falcons at 3-0 and The Vikings at 0-3 on the early season, the game got off to a very quick start when North Country’s Charli Kellaway received a ball from Cora Nadeau. Kellaway headed the ball forward to herself and finished with a great half volley to the right side of the net. The clock had only moved :53 ticks in the first half.

“North Country, continuing with the small passing and possession style of play, scored their 2nd goal 2 minutes later when it was Cora Nadeau on a nice run through the middle depositing the ball from 12 yards out to the right side of the net. The Falcons continued to pound the offensive end in the half with several opportunities. One of those opportunities found freshman Sabine Brueck on the outside of the field where she pushed the ball by the Lyndon defender and crossed the ball back towards the 12 yard line where Brianna Deslandes was crashing the net and finished to make it 3-0 at the half. We moved the ball very well in the first half and moved collectively as a unit eliminating any chance for Lyndon to play the ball between the lines.

“The Falcons, who came out to start the second half on a mission, proceeded to keep the Vikings bottled up in their own end with several point-blank hard shots from Mackenzie Parenteau, however nothing was finding the back of the net. Several great builds from Kellaway, Brueck, Descheneau, and Colburn resulted in shot after shot, but Lyndon’s keeper was equal to the task. Finally, with 24 minutes left in the second half, Lahna Descheneau who received a great angled pass from Charlie

Schurman, scored from the top of the 18 to make it 4-0. A barrage of shots first from Parenteau then Brueck and Kellaway continued to set the pace in the second half along with keeping the Lyndon keeper very very busy.

Natalie Holmes makes it 5-0 at 16:46 with a blast from 20 with an assist from Descheneau. A trip in the box with 7:20 left to go by Lyndon’s fullback gave North Country’s Josie Fortin a PK which she calmly finished to the goalies right to make it 6-0 Ralcons. NC finished the scoring with :24 seconds remaining in the game on a blast from Fortin at the top of the 18 to make it a final of 7-0.

“The Falcons out-shot their opponents 31-4 with the Lyndon Keeper getting more then a work out on the day with 18 saves. NC out cornered Lyndon Institute 8-1.”

Now standing at 4-0, the Falcons are slated to play host to Peoples Academy on Friday.

Game time is 4:30.

Peoples Academy 6, Lake Region 2

MORRISVILLE–The Lake Region Lady Rangers went up against a challenging Wolves team from Peoples Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

Anna Isselhardt scored two goals in the first and added another two in the second to send the Academy past LR.

“Peoples Academy came out strong, dominating the pace and play of the game from the first minute,” said LR coach Mary Farnsworth. It forced us to adjust to them and threw us off our style of play. We came out flat and missing the hunger seen in the past few games. Peoples played a strong game. Their defensive line was well maintained and the offense led by Anna Isselhardt seized every opportunity.”

Alayna Azur and Madison Bowman had the two Lake Region goals, with Reese Petit getting an assist on Azur’s tally.

Maya Auger and Marina Rockwell combined to make five saves for Lake Region.

Now standing at 2-3, the Lady Rangers will travel to take on Montpelier on Saturday.

Game time is 5:00.

Newport Invitational

NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons played host to 12 schools at the 43rd annual Newport Invitational golf tournament last week.

“Austin shot a smooth 66 to tie the tournament record,” said NC coach Michael Ingram. “He was three under on the front and three under on the back, even with a conservative approach off the tee.”

Essex would get the team win, with a score of 327.

Lake Region’s boys team was also at the event, and they shot 391 as a team.
