MIKE OLMSTEAD Sports Editor

NEWPORT–On Wednesday afternoon North Country issued a statement regarding this Friday’s football game between the Falcons and Lyndon Institute, as well as the Maniatty Homecoming activities.

The football game has been canceled with no word if it will be made up at a later date, while the homecoming activities have been postponed to a later date which has not been set as of this moment.

Here is the official statement from NCU Principal Chris Young.

“On Wednesday, September 22, NCUHS learned of a school community member who tested positive for COVID-19. This has impacted our football team to the point that we are unable to safely field a team for this Friday’s game against Lyndon. We have also postponed out Maniatty Homecoming activities until a later date. At this time, we do not have any additional cases of school community members who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are therefore able to continue to participate in other athletic practices and matches. Please contact chris.young@ncsuvt. org with any additional questions.”

As it stands right now, both soccer games and the field hockey game that are scheduled for Friday and Saturday are still on.

Monday’s JV football game has also been canceled.
