Local Young Artist

By Rebecca Farrar Special to the Express

Art comes in many different forms, all enjoyable to view as well as create. Orleans County is home to many talented individuals, in all different aspects of art.

Dezeray Marsh has always had a love for art, ever since she was young, and art has also been her favorite class throughout her time at North Country High School.

Marsh said that her inspiration comes from her mom, who is very good at art as well, as well as her arts teacher at North Country. Marsh involves herself in all different aspects of art. She has taken four art classes throughout the three years she’s been in high school. Her talents include different types of drawing and color shading, as well as acrylic and water based painting. She also spends time working with sculpting which involves carving or shaping, ceramics which are made by shaping clay and then heating it at a high temperature, design and sign making of all kinds, and tie-dying shirts, hand bags, bandanas, and other items people may want.

Marsh explained that sometimes, she will repeat the same art projects over again to improve her talents even further. She finds enjoyment in perfecting her skills as an artist. She said that her favorite piece was a welcome sign she designed out of clay for her home.

Incorporating other things she likes into her artwork adds personality and a personal touch. Such as a sunflower plate and portrait she created, inspired by her love for the plant. After drawing the designs, Marsh painted each piece carefully with different shades of color to create a layered effect.

Marsh said that she likes to take time with her pieces to ensure they come out the way she wants them to look. She has also created puzzle pieces from clay.

Marsh spreads positively through her work. They are bright, vibrant, and happy, adding a bit of joy to the viewer. When asked if she sees herself continuing art in the future she replied that she’s not sure. When she graduates this upcoming school year she plans to go to college to become a preschool teacher.

Whether it be bright bold colors, or detailed drawings, art can be mesmerizing and uplifting for many. Marsh creates special, one of a kind pieces to bring joy to not only herself but all those who choose to view it.
